Wylde Swan

Go to bookings and prices Wylde Swan is the world largest topsail schooner, rebuilt in 2010. She will be a potential winner of Tall Ships Races, fitted out as a sail training vessel and crewed by sailors who have been professionally prepared to act as sailing tutors. She is bought, rebuilt and managed by the same team as the Swan fan Makkum. There are also little sloops on deck to sail when it is possible when she is in the harbour or anchoring close to a beach or nice isle.

Accommodation

The 36 trainees will sleep in bunks and 8 hammocks where normally is a large saloon. There are also a few cabins with max 4 trainees. Of course there is a room for education and a dining room. It is a modern ship with traditional rigging. The galley is of high quality.

History

Wylde Swan was called 'Jeno' at the moment, she had hit the water in 1920 as the steam trawler, built for the German Wilhelmshavener Hochseefischerei AG of Rüstringen. She got names as Ursula, Hariet, Are and the last name was Jemo, almost the same as the first time. The hull is of an old 'market chaser'. Such fast vessels bought herring catches from drifters, to bring them to market before the competition. In 2001 Sligting bought the ship. The Wylde Swan is built according to the plans of Willem Sligting and Hinke de Vries, an experienced couple in building ships like the fast B-class Jacob Meindert and the Swan fan Makkum. The latter was a real race-ship and is now sold to the Italian Marine. The Wylde Swan is built to be the biggest (and hopefully the fastest) topsail schooner!
