Oosterschelde
Go to bookings and prices An adventurous classic. This glorious monumental classic will measure up to its younger kind. The Oosterschelde is fanatically competing at the big sailing races, won the Tall Ships' Race in its class in 2003 and has two number two rankings during the Race of the Classics on its name. Racing is not its only passion. The 6-man crew will help you with the ins & outs of sailing so sail experience is not a must. The ship sails all oceans with destinations such as Indonesia, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Cape Horn and Antarctica. This makes the Oosterschelde the worlds most adventurous Tall Ship."In one word: Unforgettable! My nicest moment was sailing with 9 knots of wind. The welcome was very very good! "

History
In 1917 the construction of the three-mast schooner 'the Oosterschelde' started by order of the Rotterdam shipping company. It was put into service as a sailing freighter along the coasts of Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and Northern Africa. The Oosterschelde was owned by several Scandinavian, firstly under the name of Fuglen and later on Sylvan, until it eventually was taken under supervision by three nautical museums which restored the ship between 1988 and 1992. The costs were paid for by the Rotterdam business community, local & national authorities and quite a few private investors who joined forces in the foundation 'Het Rotterdamsche Zeilschip' that was especially founded to support this cause. Nowadays, it sails all oceans and is known as the world most adventurous Tall Ship and Holland's only authentic three-mast ship.News

The gloomy mood of our first mile on the way to `The Battle of DrakeŽ is suddenly interrupted when Klaas yells out `Whale off the starboard bow!”
All the crew reacts promptly and even de masts bend over to starboard to see what’s going on. The goodbye-to-Antarctica sadness prompts everybody to feast their eyes on this last antarctic treat.
Somebody somewhere must have thrown a small fortune in the whale-machine. We get to see four whales playing together in a quarter of a mile circle around Europa. Every lack of a diving whale tail in any camera is made good.
The four are toying with us: disappearing and surface right next to our ship, swim under the ship from port to starboard, wave a white fin at us, demonstrate skills in backstroke… Antarctica does not let us go yet.
A ship full of people applauds the whale-show and is two bits less sad for the moment.
